Dark Eldar - GLORIOUS RETURN<span style="color: white;">So I'm back in the game with the new Crons. Played a game recently with Gabe's DE. Here's a batrep!</span><br />
<br />
<span style="color: white;">Finally got around to playing a game at a local store with a friend of mine. I brought along my roomies camera (which I will use more efficiently next time, I had no idea I had it set to focus on so little of what I was aiming at).</span><br />
<span style="color: white;"><br /></span><br />
<span style="color: white;">Deployment : Spearhead</span><br />

<span style="color: white;"><br /></span><br />
<span style="color: white;">One of the ghost ark's arrays, along with it's occupants (warriors/destrutek) fire on the ravager, once again doing nothing (Throwing piles of d6 for the gauss flayers, BUT NOTHING!). The other array fires at a nearby raider, but it does nothing.</span><br />

<span style="color: white;"><br /></span><br />
<span style="color: white;">One of the ark's array, and it's occupants all fire into the ravager again... again doing nothing. My ark and this ravager pretty much spent the entire game shooting at one another and doing nothing. My other array fires into the Archon's new raider, causing it to explode. No wounds were caused by the explosion.</span><br />
<span style="color: white;">My despairtek fires it's template at the Archon's unit, inflicting one wound. My opponent chooses to take the save on his Archon (has a 2+ invul) and rolls a 1! Killing him instantly due to str.</span><br />
<span style="color: white;"><br /></span><br />
<span style="color: white;">My big HQ unit assaults the Archon's remaining unit. Mindshackle scarabs take an Incubi, who turns and kills one incubi, and inflicts a wound to the homunculus who was disembarked from the raider. The remaining incubi and homunculus fail to inflict any wounds, and my HQ unit kills them all in turn.</span><br />

This image presents all of what I used during the course of all of this master-level hobbywork.<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<ul><li>Supa Glue</li>
<li>Hobby Knife</li>
<li>Some files</li>
<li>Some tiny-ass magnets (<a href="http://www.rare-earth-magnets.com/p-6-nsn0566.aspx">http://www.rare-earth-magnets.com/p-6-nsn0566.aspx</a>)</li>
<li>A hobby drill with appropriately sized drill-bit (1/16")</li>
<li>An extra drill bit (for magnet placing)</li>
<li>A snazzy new GK Terminator</li>
</ul><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-FGbQR5nQkxs/TZ6LhiSwJAI/AAAAAAAAARE/qEWAfvpOQsU/s1600/IMG_0895.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-FGbQR5nQkxs/TZ6LhiSwJAI/AAAAAAAAARE/qEWAfvpOQsU/s320/IMG_0895.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><br />
I glue the chest piece together, nothing else at this point. Once glued together I drill a hole directly in the middle of the helmet-cavity of the chestpiece. The very nice thing about this size of magnet and drill-bit is that they're perfectly sized for one another. You drill a small hole with this bit and a magnet will fit snuggly within. This prevents me from really needing to use green stuff when placing every magnet, once you have one of these magnets in one of these holes with some super glue you're not getting it out without carving the thing apart.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-0RbHMNS_u_w/TZ6LiLE_kyI/AAAAAAAAARI/4HO9CpOHbR4/s1600/IMG_0897.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-0RbHMNS_u_w/TZ6LiLE_kyI/AAAAAAAAARI/4HO9CpOHbR4/s320/IMG_0897.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><div><br />
</div><div>I personally use my sprue nipper and shave off the rounded bottom of the helmet, then file it down a bit. I simply glue a magnet right onto it and it works well enough. If you don't file this down far enough the helmet is going to look goofy and too highly raised. </div><div><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-Bo9HoxAIulg/TZ6Li6cRdNI/AAAAAAAAARM/KMGa1718FQE/s1600/IMG_0898.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-Bo9HoxAIulg/TZ6Li6cRdNI/AAAAAAAAARM/KMGa1718FQE/s320/IMG_0898.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><div><br />
</div><div>This is how I test the proper polarity of my magnets and also how I place them. I just place a dab of glue on the hole I've made, push the magnet in and slide the bit away to the side, removing the magnet from the drill-bit and leaving it cozy in it's hole.</div><div><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-4yYrM_uwkXQ/TZ6LqplwWsI/AAAAAAAAAR4/UVfFYIKU3YA/s1600/IMG_0909.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-4yYrM_uwkXQ/TZ6LqplwWsI/AAAAAAAAAR4/UVfFYIKU3YA/s320/IMG_0909.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><div><br />
</div><div>Completed chest-piece and helmets.</div><div><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-NpFTGKiz-Us/TZ6LjBCK7aI/AAAAAAAAARQ/f5_dc5Z_9bo/s1600/IMG_0899.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-NpFTGKiz-Us/TZ6LjBCK7aI/AAAAAAAAARQ/f5_dc5Z_9bo/s320/IMG_0899.JPG" width="320" /></a></div> I'll generally spin the drill bit placed against the model just to get it centered as I need it and to score the plastic so the bit can gain purchase more easily. PS: This was my one model out of the 5 terminators who will be the interchangeable heavy weapons guy. Which was actually the most challenging. The different heavy weapons have awkward gaps in it, took some green stuff to pull off.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-WBzu_zHoa-M/TZ6Lj2JGVKI/AAAAAAAAARU/pPe8JflIWRU/s1600/IMG_0900.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-WBzu_zHoa-M/TZ6Lj2JGVKI/AAAAAAAAARU/pPe8JflIWRU/s320/IMG_0900.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><br />
Shallow hole complete.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-N3L1tJ_CZzI/TZ6LkhdRbvI/AAAAAAAAARY/b0el7jPJpX0/s1600/IMG_0901.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-N3L1tJ_CZzI/TZ6LkhdRbvI/AAAAAAAAARY/b0el7jPJpX0/s320/IMG_0901.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><br />
Glue that sucka<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-21r5XHxU54E/TZ6LlbKCC4I/AAAAAAAAARc/cAY6H2FMdTc/s1600/IMG_0902.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-21r5XHxU54E/TZ6LlbKCC4I/AAAAAAAAARc/cAY6H2FMdTc/s320/IMG_0902.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><div><br />
</div><div>Pop the magnet in. Easy enough.</div><div><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-DAL62sequ1s/TZ6LmB2prEI/AAAAAAAAARg/9wlWB8ba6h0/s1600/IMG_0903.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-DAL62sequ1s/TZ6LmB2prEI/AAAAAAAAARg/9wlWB8ba6h0/s320/IMG_0903.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><br />
For the heavy-weapons I basically filled the rectangular holes in the side of the weapon with green stuff, placed the second magnet on top of the terminator's arm - Pressed the two pieces together so that the magnet gets lodged in it's proper place in the green stuff, and slid the gun to the side, leaving the magnet in it's proper place in the green stuff.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-H3eZXvVBqhs/TZ6LmyXsg3I/AAAAAAAAARk/TDAibmR_1So/s1600/IMG_0904.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-H3eZXvVBqhs/TZ6LmyXsg3I/AAAAAAAAARk/TDAibmR_1So/s320/IMG_0904.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><br />
These heavy weapons don't fit as snuggly as I'd like, but it's really not noticeable for the most part. PS : Check out how I butchered drilling the barrel in my psycannon. I raged.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-BscgpaUzhx4/TZ6LrZ9i9UI/AAAAAAAAAR8/PSIYlhOmuow/s1600/IMG_0910.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-BscgpaUzhx4/TZ6LrZ9i9UI/AAAAAAAAAR8/PSIYlhOmuow/s320/IMG_0910.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><div><br />
</div><div><br />
</div><div>Weapon-arm and weaponry complete.</div><div><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-mETP-bsLKxM/TZ6LnowVaAI/AAAAAAAAARo/pKUO86-ZoFk/s1600/IMG_0905.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-mETP-bsLKxM/TZ6LnowVaAI/AAAAAAAAARo/pKUO86-ZoFk/s320/IMG_0905.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><br />
<br />
The melee weapon-arm has been the easiest magnet-job I've seen. All of the weapons are hand-to-wrist. Simply drill a shallow hole in the middle, pop in the magnets, and you're done. Perfect fit every time.<br />
<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div>I'd like to start this post by proclaiming my love for local hobby stores (Especially those who release GW merchandise before it's supposed to be) <3 .<br />
<br />
I did a quick and dirty unboxing for you all. Terminators, and Grey Knights. The detail on these models drives my nether regions straight to bone-town.<br />

Figured I'd start my 2nd with some new hot business, plus I love the aesthetics of the Grey Knights. I've gone ahead and purchased a Landraider and a Razorback to magnetize/paint up while I wait the last few weeks. I've just started with the LR interior. Here a few shots of my progress. Working with the metal paints is definitely a big leap from my painting comfort zone. Time to learn some new tricks.Merkmonhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16043821058791600790noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4247097538682079742.post-90238266842400662422011-03-14T13:24:00.000-07:002011-03-21T21:39:55.175-07:001850 Tyranids vs. Dark Eldar : Number 2 of ongoing series Gabe and I ran our second game in an ongoing series fighting over the planet "Viridis Sileo". You can read the battle report on our first game here : <a href="http://irollboxcars.blogspot.com/2011/02/1850-dark-eldar-vs-tyranids-assault-on.html">http://irollboxcars.blogspot.com/2011/02/1850-dark-eldar-vs-tyranids-assault-on.html</a> ( I won cause i'm so cool )<br />
<br />
We used a fun scenario taken from www.40kradio.com 's site. (<a href="http://www.40kradio.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/02/Crash-Site-Recovery-Scenario-v5.0.1.52.pdf">http://www.40kradio.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/02/Crash-Site-Recovery-Scenario-v5.0.1.52.pdf</a> <a href="http://www.40kradio.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/02/Crash-Site-Recovery-Mission-Special-Rules1.pdf">http://www.40kradio.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/02/Crash-Site-Recovery-Mission-Special-Rules1.pdf</a>)<br />
<br />
To save you from needless reading (cause who does that, seriously?) I'll give you a dumbed down version of the rules here.<br />
<br />
Objectives : There are 6 'crates' scattered around the board. A single model, in it's movement phase, can take a crate, which stays 'attached' to the model via base contact. The crates can be picked up by essentially any model as long as they have the 'hands' to do it. The crates can even be placed inside of vehicles. The first time these crates are touched, you roll a D6, if a roll of 1 occurs the crate explodes. This failed to happen once during the game.<br />
<br />
In addition to the crates there's also a pilot who's haplessly stuck in the middle of all of this shenanigans. Each turn he will run 6" away from the nearest army (which we forgot to do a few times, no biggy). The pilot grants you +1 at the end of the game if you're holding him. In order to capture and hold him you have to assault him and defeat him in close combat. He's then attached to the unit much like the crates are. The pilot can also be killed if the unit he's attached to is shot at; shooting wounds are allocated as normal, so killing the pilot is an easy task. His stat line : 3 / 4 / 3 / 3 / 1 / 3 / 1 / 8 / 6+<br />
<br />
Deployment : A normal 12" deployment. Only troops can be deployed at the beginning of the first turn. The rest of your army come in from reserves starting on turn one (with a roll of 5+). When your other units come in you roll a D6 to see where they come in. A roll of 1 places them on the left board edge. 2-5, they come in from your long board edge as normal. 6 - they come in from the right board edge.<br />
<br />
<br />

Don't ask me why we used so many hedges. It made for a difficult board to traverse with a footslogging army. Dark Eldar trickery. D:<br />
<br />
We roll off, I win and choose to deploy/go first.<br />
<br />
TURN 1<br />
<br />
Nids : I place all of my troops on the board here with the exception of my hormagaunts, who I've chosen to outflank with using my Tyrant's hive commander ability. I fail to roll any 5+ for the first turn reserve roll.<br />
<br />
My tervigon pumps out some gaunts, rolling a 3, 3 and 1. Totaling 7 gaunts, and having rolled doubles I was to have no more free gaunts this game(Blown tervigon sphincter); baaaad roll. I march forward with my troops. My warriors on the left pick up their first crate.<br />
<br />
<br />
DE : Gabe deploys his troops in their raiders. The Duke in his Venom come onto the board with a successful reserve roll. The raider containing the wyches swoops forward on my left side, unloading it's wyches. They dash towards my warriors.<br />
<br />
Gabe's Venom and three raiders fire at my Tervigon who is in area terrain, but fail to inflict any wounds.<br />
The warriors on board the two raiders are in range to double tap their splinter rifles into my tervigon, inflicting a total of 4 wounds. A rough start for my baby-maker.<br />
<br />
In assault the wyches barrel into my waiting warriors. They strike first, inflicting one wound to my warriors. My warriors retaliate and cleave apart 6 wyches, causing them to flee. Gabe's initiate and roll are greater than mine and the wyches are running the hell away.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-TiaG5Jh9HNU/TX5mAPRmBrI/AAAAAAAAANk/9M_ipK62ibc/s1600/Bottom1.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-TiaG5Jh9HNU/TX5mAPRmBrI/AAAAAAAAANk/9M_ipK62ibc/s320/Bottom1.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><br />

TURN 2<br />
<br />
<u>Nids</u> : My Tyrant's hive commander means my reserves are now coming in on a 3+, which they all do with the exception of my hive guard and hormagaunts. I roll for my reserve-units and they all hit 2-5, meaning they're walking in from my board edge.<br />
<br />
My Trygon bursts from the ground right in front of one of the raider's filled with soft eldar-flesh. My genestealers pop up from within the area terrain in the center of the board (who would have guessed?). My squad of gaunts on the right side take hold of a crate.<br />
<br />
My warriors on the left swing their deathspitters around to take aim at the wyche's raider, unloading on it and causing it to explode. The ensuing explosion sees two more of the fleeing wyches vaporized, bringing their number to just two. My trygon prime let's loose his containment spines, inflicting a lethal blow to the raider just in front of it. It explodes as well, engulfing three kabalite warriors from within and catching two of my own nearby termagants as well.<br />
<br />
The angry, wounded tervigon fires it's cluster spines into the reeling kabalite warriors who were just violently disembarked from their ruined transport. The tervigon's aim was good and two kabalite warriors are impaled. They meet a swift, painful end.<br />
<br />
The ymgarl genestealers who appeared from within the forest leap forward and onto the other raider filled with kabalite warriors. They very nearly surround the entire vehicle, and the raider explodes as dozens or rending claws tear it asunder. The explosion incinerates one of the genestealers, as well as one of the kabalite warriors. The tervigon's freshly birthed termagant brood runs down and assaults the fleeing pilot, subduing him and taking him prisoner. Don't ask me why nids would ever do this, I leave the fluff explanation to Gabe.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-JBvhA_CYF8Q/TX5mJAcITCI/AAAAAAAAAN8/FeNeGInxwQ0/s1600/Turn2.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-JBvhA_CYF8Q/TX5mJAcITCI/AAAAAAAAAN8/FeNeGInxwQ0/s320/Turn2.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><div style="text-align: center;">Yep. They're gonna get shot to shit.</div><br />
<u>DE</u> : Gabe rolls for his reserves, seeing both squads of reavers, the last raider containing his incubi, and two of the three ravagers rip onto the board. They all come in from his table edge.<br />
<br />
One of the squads of reavers waste no time and swoop in, grabbing one of the crate's along the right side of the board. The raider approaches my trygon and disembarks it's incubi.<br />
<br />
The remaining kabalite warriors take aim at the trygon who had destroyed their transport. They double tap and manage to inflict one wound to the monster. The incubi's raider fires it's dark lance into the trygon, failing to wound it. The two ravagers fire their dark lances into the squad of two zoanthropes, inflicting three wounds but not managing to penetrate their powerful warp fields.<br />
<br />
The venom and it's occupants unload on the ymgarl genestealers, attempting to save their brethren from a violent end. Six of the genestealers are cut down in the hail of fire. The kabalite warriors themselves take up aim and finish off the remainder of the genestealer squad. (stupid, squishy genstealers, this is why I don't use you.)<br />
<br />
Gabe's incubi charge forward, engaging my trygon. They manage to inflict one wound to the towering beast before it could lash back, slaying three of them. The incubi pass their leadership test and stand strong before the beast. Gabe's reavers use their assault-movement to back up a bit near his table edge.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-XgH3shxq4Ck/TX5mHxDj2zI/AAAAAAAAAN4/PGQnv0cd4LU/s1600/Turn2%25283%2529.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-XgH3shxq4Ck/TX5mHxDj2zI/AAAAAAAAAN4/PGQnv0cd4LU/s320/Turn2%25283%2529.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><br />

TURN 3<br />
<br />
Nids: I roll for reserves once again. This time bringing in the rest of my army. Both the hive guard and hormagaunts come in from the left table edge. Good for the hive guard, very bad for me and the hormagaunts. The only thing near them a pair of ravagers. At the time I completely forgot that I had given them adrenal glands, meaning on the charge they would have been able to destroy them. Stupid mistake on my part, the hormies continue to hoof it across the board for the remainder of the game.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-0bmYV8MrAos/TX5vCYMPTsI/AAAAAAAAAOQ/xlCDURev-9k/s1600/uselesshorms.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-0bmYV8MrAos/TX5vCYMPTsI/AAAAAAAAAOQ/xlCDURev-9k/s320/uselesshorms.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><div style="text-align: center;">(Useless because I'm an idiot)</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: left;">My warriors take aim at one of the ravagers perched on the rocks nearby. Managing to inflict a penetrating shot but only immobilizing the vehicle. My hive guard fire a salvo into the other ravager, immobilizing it and destroying one of it's dark lances. Zoanthropes fire a warp blast into the group of kabalite warriors who so narrowly avoided being torn apart by my genestealers, killing 3 of them.</div><div style="text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: left;">My squad of gaunts on the right side of the board unload into the nearest squad of reavers, failing to kill any of them. My other squad of gaunts now holding the pilot fire at the kabalite squad as well, killing none. The tervigon fires it's cluster spines at the reavers, it deviates a bit; striking one reaver and the nearby raider, Failing to do anything to either. Uneventful shooting is uneventful.</div><div style="text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: left;">In assault the incubi take another round of swings at my trygon, this time inflicting two wounds. Trygon swings back and wipes out the remainder of the incubi, consolidating into a nearby crate, hoping to capture it in the following turn.</div><div style="text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: left;">DE : Gabe's final ravager still fails to come onto the board.<br />
<br />
The Squad of kabalites in front of the trygon double tap into it. Failing to inflict any wounds.<br />
The incubi's raider fires it's dark lance into the trygon, avenging it's fallen squad and removing the monster's final wound.<br />
The venom, it's occupants, and the other squad of kabalite warriors unload their fire into the squad of gaunts holding the pilot. This killed 5 gaunts total, not harming the pilot.<br />
Gabe's ravagers unload their salvo of dark lances into my weakened tervigon, finishing it off. The ensuing psychic backlash hammers both nearby gaunt squads. Wiping out what's left of the squad with the pilot and scrambling the brains of 8 gaunts in the other squad, leaving only 2. Oof.</div><div style="text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: left;"><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-tcJ0lWDnG8U/TX56d-4sneI/AAAAAAAAAOo/_nwm5MtmuT8/s1600/Turn3.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-tcJ0lWDnG8U/TX56d-4sneI/AAAAAAAAAOo/_nwm5MtmuT8/s320/Turn3.JPG" width="320" /></a></div></div><div style="text-align: center;"> He wears it everywhere he goes.</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: left;">TURN 4</div><div style="text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: left;">Nids : Some general repositioning. Fex moves up, Zoeys move up, Warriors move towards the middle of the board to get into the action. My Tyrant trudges forward and claims another crate.</div><div style="text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: left;">My hive guard unload on one of the ravagers again, and thanks to some amazing rolls they manage to do nothing. I NEED 3's TO GLANCE FFS! :(</div><div style="text-align: left;">My dakkafex unload into the small squad of kabalite warriors on the left near a crate, wiping them out.</div><div style="text-align: left;">My zoanthropes fire their warp blasts at the remaining squad of warriors, they go to ground, this does not save them. They're also wiped out. My tyrant unloads his devourers into the nearest unit of reavers, killing all but one.</div><div style="text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: left;">DE : Gabe's final ravager finally comes in. His other squad of 6 reavers swooped into the center of the board, landing in front of the pilot. (fails one dangerous terrain test, killing one) His other remaining reaver boosts over towards the middle of the board to grab another crate. (per scenario rules a single model can only carry one crate but we let it fly because we forgot! :D ) This brings us to Nids - 3, DE - 2 with one free crate on the right side of the board near my tyrant.</div><div style="text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: left;">Two of his ravagers unload into my dakkafex, inflicting one wound. The third ravager fires at the hive guard, inflicting one wound.</div><div style="text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: left;">In the assault phase the reavers pounce on the pilot, and he's taken prisoner once more.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-GHcTp0rPN00/TX53tiUMNCI/AAAAAAAAAOk/eVmZW05HjxM/s1600/1300120614385.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-GHcTp0rPN00/TX53tiUMNCI/AAAAAAAAAOk/eVmZW05HjxM/s320/1300120614385.jpg" width="252" /></a></div><div style="text-align: left;"><div style="text-align: center;">(At this point I forgot to take pictures. So instead here's a delicious morsel. It's rumored that squats are returning to 40k in the coming Tau dex as a troop choice.)</div></div><div style="text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: left;">TURN 5</div><div style="text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: left;">Nids: More repositioning. My tyranid prime FINALLY reaches my squad of warriors and joins them.</div><div style="text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: left;">Dakkafex unloads into the duke's venom. Causing it to explode and killing one of it's trueborn occupants.</div><div style="text-align: left;">The Tyrant unloads on the duke and his remaining retinue, killing the remaining three trueborn, leaving the Duke alone with his crate.</div><div style="text-align: left;">Hive guard fires into a ravager, finally managing to blow one up. (Bout time, guys)</div><div style="text-align: left;">My prime and warriors unload into the single reaver now holding two crates, killing him and freeing up the two crates.</div><div style="text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: left;">My zoanthropes fire their warp blasts into the squad of reavers holding the pilot, both hitting their mark. This only manages to kill one reaver but (luckily) Gabe fails the pilot's cover save, killing him.</div><div style="text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: left;">DE : At the last moment, Gabe's reavers fly over the treetops to land and take hold of the two free crates, giving this one squad three crates and tieing up the game!</div><div style="text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: left;">Remaining ravagers fire into the dakkafex, failing to inflict any wounds.</div><div style="text-align: left;">The duke fires into the tyrant, inflicting one wound.</div><div style="text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: left;">I roll at the end of 5 and hit a 1 : ending the game 3 to 3. Unknowingly - Gabe's Wych squad (still fleeing and having only 2 models left) was his largest capturing unit. Mine were my warriors. Neither of these were killed which gave us no score modifiers. We both had commanders still up, which meant the game ended in a draw.</div><div style="text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: left;">It was a fun game overall and it really came down to the wire. GG!</div><div style="text-align: left;"><br />

I WAS A NOOB WHEN I BUILT THESE. I'M SORRY! :(<br />
<br />
<br />
So I'm finally getting around to basing some of the first models that I've painted since picking up the hobby; my old, fugly genestealers. I've based a fair number of my nids now and each time I've learned a way to improve upon it, so I'll heap my trial-and-error process upon you now. Learn from my mistakes!<br />
<br />
Step 1 : MATERIALS<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-Fqe1kKi2Uvg/TXlwq6rMsNI/AAAAAAAAALY/Xr-91EGk4nY/s1600/IMG_0761.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-Fqe1kKi2Uvg/TXlwq6rMsNI/AAAAAAAAALY/Xr-91EGk4nY/s320/IMG_0761.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-Py785hLxqmc/TXlwsEu3AVI/AAAAAAAAALc/e6oGAnReVok/s1600/IMG_0762.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-Py785hLxqmc/TXlwsEu3AVI/AAAAAAAAALc/e6oGAnReVok/s320/IMG_0762.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-ky01knImtxU/TXlwtMd2d1I/AAAAAAAAALg/MOuOg78GiUk/s1600/IMG_0770.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-ky01knImtxU/TXlwtMd2d1I/AAAAAAAAALg/MOuOg78GiUk/s320/IMG_0770.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">I use three layers of sand/pebble/rock for my basing. Simple sand from my back yard which has been sifted to remove any debris and doo-doo. The other two bags I acquired from my local wal-mart. I just stumbled across them, and seeing the potential, picked them up. I'm sure something similar can be found at a local hobby store/hardware store.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">Besides that we've got regular white glue, and I use citadel's grass. The paints I use are Scorched Brown, Graveyard Earth, and Vermin Brown.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">Step 2 : Painting up the base scorched brown.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-8bdDyCyocL4/TXlyB0ZZhGI/AAAAAAAAALk/7TV6Y3k7fao/s1600/IMG_0760.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-8bdDyCyocL4/TXlyB0ZZhGI/AAAAAAAAALk/7TV6Y3k7fao/s320/IMG_0760.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">Not much to add here. I add an initial coat of scorched brown before I glue on any basing components. This is to ensure that once the other layers go on there are no specks of white that shine through.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">Step 3 : BIG OL' RAWKS</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-Tq3LVtBO9bc/TXlyX4aoafI/AAAAAAAAALo/Ce-XGOX5zqo/s1600/IMG_0763.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-Tq3LVtBO9bc/TXlyX4aoafI/AAAAAAAAALo/Ce-XGOX5zqo/s320/IMG_0763.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-SGzz2mGKdeM/TXlyYmTQweI/AAAAAAAAALs/i7OjYLJh2NY/s1600/IMG_0764.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-SGzz2mGKdeM/TXlyYmTQweI/AAAAAAAAALs/i7OjYLJh2NY/s320/IMG_0764.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">When I apply glue to my base I generally use my sculpting tool to spread it out so it's not a thick glob across the base.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">This is something that took a few attempts at basing to sink in. The largest 'rocks' on your base need to be glued on first. That way when the other layers are said and done the irregular, larger rocks protrude from beneath the rest. It makes the base look more natural.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">I simply take a small number of these irregular pebbles and drop them onto the base, let them lay where they land, making sure to push any that are hanging over the edge fully onto the base.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">Step 4 : SAND!</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-TTg_Lpp2MPU/TXlyZy0zZCI/AAAAAAAAAL0/-q84qvJwkvM/s1600/IMG_0766.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-TTg_Lpp2MPU/TXlyZy0zZCI/AAAAAAAAAL0/-q84qvJwkvM/s320/IMG_0766.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-LmW60or6ilo/TXlyZFThOcI/AAAAAAAAALw/1xwAg0l-gF8/s1600/IMG_0765.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-LmW60or6ilo/TXlyZFThOcI/AAAAAAAAALw/1xwAg0l-gF8/s320/IMG_0765.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-4a8UW7zWf6k/TXlyasuG4tI/AAAAAAAAAL4/AIP-_ETGs00/s1600/IMG_0767.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-4a8UW7zWf6k/TXlyasuG4tI/AAAAAAAAAL4/AIP-_ETGs00/s320/IMG_0767.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-3JV1MtqEq_g/TXlybduiP5I/AAAAAAAAAL8/P-8uCOuIrKQ/s1600/IMG_0768.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-3JV1MtqEq_g/TXlybduiP5I/AAAAAAAAAL8/P-8uCOuIrKQ/s320/IMG_0768.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><br />
I allow roughly one minute for the glue to harden up just enough to lodge my first layer of rocks in place before dipping the base into my bowl of sand, forming the dirt of the base. Submerge the base, lift it out, tap the model and let the excess drop back in and you're good.<br />
<br />
Step 5 : Pebbles!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-3YkGKVTSHmo/TXlyckKj5WI/AAAAAAAAAME/_UbVwP8TFj0/s1600/IMG_0772.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-3YkGKVTSHmo/TXlyckKj5WI/AAAAAAAAAME/_UbVwP8TFj0/s320/IMG_0772.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-2J2vO6rbMDA/TXlydfMJayI/AAAAAAAAAMI/iANsqedbE8E/s1600/IMG_0773.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-2J2vO6rbMDA/TXlydfMJayI/AAAAAAAAAMI/iANsqedbE8E/s320/IMG_0773.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><br />
I give a good amount of time between steps 4 and 5. Atleast 30 minutes to an hour for the first layer to really get locked in with the glue. <br />
<br />
I lay on another layer of glue atop my sand and submerge the base again in my larger bag of pebbles. Removing it, tapping it to remove excess once again.<br />
<br />
I give the bases plenty of time to fully harden again.<br />
<br />
<br />
Step 5 : Brown ink<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-9WTzOjZ4dqQ/TXlyeCAhA_I/AAAAAAAAAMM/LSxnkL-TGQk/s1600/IMG_0786.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-9WTzOjZ4dqQ/TXlyeCAhA_I/AAAAAAAAAMM/LSxnkL-TGQk/s320/IMG_0786.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-m_CDuST7zYY/TXlyfCdrE4I/AAAAAAAAAMQ/dgD584icYgc/s1600/IMG_0787.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-m_CDuST7zYY/TXlyfCdrE4I/AAAAAAAAAMQ/dgD584icYgc/s320/IMG_0787.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><br />
Once the glue has locked my layers in, I break out my scorched brown again. I water it down very heavily, load up one of my larger brushes and wash my base in it. The nice thing about watering it down so heavily is that it will actually give some contrast to the rocks. You're essentially inking it.<br />
<br />
Step 6 : Dry Brushing 1/2<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-rGSyMkbnJgo/TXlyf5f6LJI/AAAAAAAAAMU/QI1VHqrqxrs/s1600/IMG_0788.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-rGSyMkbnJgo/TXlyf5f6LJI/AAAAAAAAAMU/QI1VHqrqxrs/s320/IMG_0788.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-pg1nWQQ4zsE/TXlyhmVIluI/AAAAAAAAAMc/_lJqX12DlHM/s1600/IMG_0790.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-pg1nWQQ4zsE/TXlyhmVIluI/AAAAAAAAAMc/_lJqX12DlHM/s320/IMG_0790.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><br />
At this point I break out my worn out drybrush. I load it up with vermin brown, brush the majority of it off, and run it roughly across the pebbles, giving it a nice layer of depth. I personally knock the drybrushing out pretty quick. I leave more paint on the brush than I would in conventional drybrushing, allowing the top of my pebbles a pretty obvious layer of paint.<br />
<br />
Step 7 : Dry Brushing 2/2<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-jW7tqEkVOvU/TXlyidzeQLI/AAAAAAAAAMg/YTxvw2mfZg0/s1600/IMG_0791.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-jW7tqEkVOvU/TXlyidzeQLI/AAAAAAAAAMg/YTxvw2mfZg0/s320/IMG_0791.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-6eYCISxb2UY/TXlyjXgUpbI/AAAAAAAAAMk/H4TMWPW2cGM/s1600/IMG_0792.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-6eYCISxb2UY/TXlyjXgUpbI/AAAAAAAAAMk/H4TMWPW2cGM/s320/IMG_0792.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><br />
Step 7 is a repeat of 6, except I use graveyard earth to add another layer to my bases.<br />
<br />
<br />
Step 8 : Grassin' that junk.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-7BpHW2Uutl8/TXlykX-Jv7I/AAAAAAAAAMo/94vDXCmAoaY/s1600/IMG_0793.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-7BpHW2Uutl8/TXlykX-Jv7I/AAAAAAAAAMo/94vDXCmAoaY/s320/IMG_0793.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-_YvdFSzfDNs/TXlylPviwsI/AAAAAAAAAMs/BJ-DBI0qFWM/s1600/IMG_0794.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-_YvdFSzfDNs/TXlylPviwsI/AAAAAAAAAMs/BJ-DBI0qFWM/s320/IMG_0794.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><br />
With my current nid's theme, I add some grass amongst the common brown dirt/rocks. Something I've learned from working multiple bases is this : Don't just place a blob of glue onto the base and toss some grass on it. It causes it to look raised and unnatural.<br />
<br />
I tend to drop a fair-sized amount of glue with some very tiny dots scattered around it, I've found that this makes the base look most natural when compared to my other attempts. Always take something and spread the glue around, making it as flat amongst the base as you can.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-f-oaJIWkrPM/TXl6qfp8sZI/AAAAAAAAANQ/KiVO8obVWlI/s1600/IMG_0798.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-f-oaJIWkrPM/TXl6qfp8sZI/AAAAAAAAANQ/KiVO8obVWlI/s320/IMG_0798.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-4V3QK00Glt0/TXl63K4O-1I/AAAAAAAAANY/FMSgDxXfROg/s1600/IMG_0799.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-4V3QK00Glt0/TXl63K4O-1I/AAAAAAAAANY/FMSgDxXfROg/s320/IMG_0799.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-KCeHkvee8Xk/TXlynbvRioI/AAAAAAAAAM0/s4tQNedR5r8/s1600/IMG_0796.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-KCeHkvee8Xk/TXlynbvRioI/AAAAAAAAAM0/s4tQNedR5r8/s320/IMG_0796.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">Take a pinch of grass-flock in your fingers and allow it to fall over the glue on the base. Turn it over, tap the model to remove excess once again, and you've got a simple but nice looking base.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">That's it for me for now. I'm working towards finishing my Tervigon conversion's paint job, so I hope to have it up soon. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />

I'm back stateside after a week in the country of Panama. It was hot, fun, and to complete the whole experience I caught myself a slight case of Montezuma's Revenge and proceeded to pee from my butt for a few days. Luckily this didn't really dampen the trip.<br />
<br />
Updates are soon to come, I've got a series of games I'm going to run against Gabe over at irollboxcars, I'll probably be writing up a batrep If the game we play this week is an interesting one.Merkmonhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16043821058791600790noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4247097538682079742.post-46658640616026626622011-02-04T11:09:00.000-08:002011-02-04T11:13:02.759-08:00Coastal Assault 2011<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">I competed in a local annual tourney last week : Coastal Assault 2011 in Destin, FL, and had a freaking blast. The event featured everything from Magic to Battletech. The 40k event was a 4 round 1850 point tourney. I didn't do as well as I'd have hoped but I was able to play against four people I've never played before, and as always it was good experience in facing various armies and builds. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">My record was 1 Win, 1 Draw, and 2 losses. All games but one were extremely close, which I'll elaborate on after some general pics of the event.</div><br />

</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">Game 1 : My first game had me pitted against a Ravenwing Marine army. This was my first time facing them. Speeders, Bikes, Assault Termies, Landraider (with nothing in it apparently? Never disembarked anything), and a Dreadnought</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">The objective was to essentially capture the center point of the board, which in this case happened to be a big ol' fortress-bastion. Each turn if you have a troop choice controlling the center point with no enemy forces within 6", you earn a number of points based on which turn you're on. Turn 1 - 1 point, Turn 2 - 2 Points etc.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">Another interesting spin on this objective was that each player secretly gives a model a 'Void Grenade'. If you don't toss this grenade by the end of the game you lose 3 points. You toss it 6", scatter it as normal, and leave a small blast. Anything this touches is removed from play. At the end of each turn you scatter the blast further. Any rolls of double for the distance moves removes the void blast from play.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_UmWF7QshN1s/TUxFpcjNHhI/AAAAAAAAAJw/KpWStRtEvJE/s1600/IMG_0546.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_UmWF7QshN1s/TUxFpcjNHhI/AAAAAAAAAJw/KpWStRtEvJE/s320/IMG_0546.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><br />

His biker who had the void grenade tossed it, and it landed just where he wanted it to, wiping both of my Zoeys and one hive guard from existence. Luckily the blast continued to scatter around harmlessly for the remainder of the game.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">His weak left flank got nom nommed by my Tervigon and baby-gaunts. My right flank got chewed up by massed bikers and speeder fire and assault. I really would have liked to play this game out, the third picture you see was basically how the board looked when the game ended, minus a speeder or two and minus my two hive guard on the right flank. At the last moment my Trygon, arriving from deep strike finally, used his pointy claws and pulled the pin from his void grenade, throwing it at my opponent's mass of bikers. This scattered off of them and did nothing. My Trygon is a poor throw.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div>This game ended in a draw. We both fought for the length of the game over the middle piece, no one actually coming out on top. My HQ unit was steadily killing off his assault termies, but we ran out of time in turn 5 I believe.<br />
<br />
<br />
Game 2: My second game was versus a mechanized Eldar list. I've played mech eldar a few times in the past, but never full on mech, and never against the annoying NightSpinner tank. I dislike that thing. >:[<br />
<br />
The eldar player had Eldrad, naturally, which heavily dampened my Tervigon's effectiveness. They were reduced to walking Gaunt-creators. Besides this he had his tanks full of Dire Avengers, one with some fire dragons, and one with Banshees.<br />
<br />
Mission two's objective was to control more area terrain pieces than your opponent at the end of the game. To capture one you had to have a scoring unit wholly in, on, or touching a piece of terrain.<br />
<br />
<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_UmWF7QshN1s/TUxNOQKauxI/AAAAAAAAALI/IKqq-YEpalg/s1600/IMG_0557.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_UmWF7QshN1s/TUxNOQKauxI/AAAAAAAAALI/IKqq-YEpalg/s320/IMG_0557.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><br />
This game went by quickly. From the start my opponent's plans were pretty obvious. He backed his tanks into his corner, biding his time, taking shots at what he could, and waiting for the final turns of the game to boost his tanks to my held terrain pieces, contesting them at the last moment.<br />
<br />
I moved my gaunts into the three terrain pieces on my side and in the middle, fanning out my Trygon and Tervigons to attempt to create a monstrous creature barrier, allowing me to assault and hopefully destroy any tank that swoops in at the last moment. Over the first 4 turns my hive guard managed to bring down a few of his tanks. I attempted to swing one squad of Hive Guard and a Trygon around the left flank in order to take cover and hopefully secure/contest one of his board-edge's area terrain. This failed pretty miserably, my Trygon and Hive Guard were quickly whittled down and killed by the focused firepower of my opponent's tanks.<br />
<br />
As expected, in the final few turns my opponent boosted two of his tanks to two of my terrain pieces, successfully tank shocking a squad of gaunts, causing them to flee. And tank shocking my HQ unit, causing them to move out of the way.<br />
<br />
In some spectacularly lucky rolling, I managed to destroy both tanks, winning the game 3-2. I really had to give my thanks to my rolls on this one.<br />
<br />
I'll post information about my two losses at another time.<br />
BAI<br />
<br />
PS : Here was the winning army. <u style="font-weight: bold;">FOOTDAR.</u> Yeah, I don't know how that happened. Would have loved to play this guy to see.<br />

I hope to have my Tervigon painted by the tourney, I know I definitely won't have his base completed. I aim to atleast have my Tyranid Prime in one piece for the tourney. Too much sculpting, I hate sculpting. Amazing! </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">I played a few small games last night against Gabe's budding Dark Eldar army. Played an objective based game on a 4x4 table. 4 Objectives, Dawn of War deployment. Gabe won the roll-off, deciding to deploy and go first.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">A note about our lists, also : We both wrote them up hastily on the spot, and as a result we both jacked them up slightly. (I fielded one too many hive guard, he fielded splinter cannons in 9 man Kabalite Warrior troop).</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />

</div><br />
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><b><u>Dark Eldar Turn 1</u></b></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><b><u><br />
</u></b></div><div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">Gabe decided to start the game off strong by flying one of his raiders up on top of some ruins on his side of the board. Through sheer Eldar finesse and skill, the raider was immobilized in a stunning display of unfortunate rolling. His other raider flew over to a cluster of large rocks to secure one of the objectives on his side of the board.</div><div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">His shooting went more fortunately. He unloaded his immobiziled raider's and it's occupants' weaponry into my poor Hormagaunts in the middle, ripping 5 to shreds in a hail of shrapnel. His other raider did the same, targeting my devilgaunts taking refuge inside of the ruins on my side of the board, managing to put down one of my devils.</div><div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><b><u>Tyranids Turn 1</u></b></div><div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">Thanks to Gabe's night fields I knew I'd need to weather a few turns of shooting until I could get into a good position to put a hurting on him. So I spent my first turn working out my Tervigon's inundated belly, creating 8 gaunts, immediately having them run their way towards the other objective amongst the obelisks.</div><div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">Besides this I just moved my forces forward, my hormagaunts scampered their way nearer to Gabe's precariously parked Raider, my hive guard moved towards the middle of the board, seeking to put their weapons in range of his raider.</div><div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">My Tervigon began moving towards the left edge of the board, looking to flush out Gabe's other raider, sitting on top of an objective.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://i.imgur.com/aArVQ.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://i.imgur.com/aArVQ.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_UmWF7QshN1s/TTIhCRki07I/AAAAAAAAAIk/Zq0QrcRqKJ4/s1600/objectives.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_UmWF7QshN1s/TTIhCRki07I/AAAAAAAAAIk/Zq0QrcRqKJ4/s320/objectives.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">2 Objectives on each side of the board</div><br />
<br />
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><b><u>Dark Eldar Turn 2</u></b></div><div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">The only movement during turn 2 was the ridiculous disembarking of Gabe's immobilized Raider atop the ruins. Gabe piled his DE on top of one another in a very illegal fashion, but it was a friendly game, so I didn't care either way. (Plus, this barred him from benefiting from his splinter racks)</div><div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">His stranded raider and it's freshly dispensed occupants unleashed more hurting on my quickly approaching Hormagaunts, killing 6 more and reducing my brood to a paltry 2.</div><div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">His other raider, standing strong next to an objective fired another salvo into my devilgaunts inside of my building, killing 3 more.</div><div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><b><u>Tyranids Turn 2</u></b></div><div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">My Tervigon casted Catalyst on itself, produced 8 more guants, and unfortunately rolled doubles while doing so ; resulting in a blown sphincter. No more free gaunts.</div><div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">My Tervigon and it's new batch of gaunts continue to scamper their way up the left side of the board, approaching one of Gabe's raider's and it's objective. My Hormagaunts and hive guard continue to advance on the immobilized raider on the right side of the board.</div><div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">My shooting falls short by inches, those night fields seem pretty invaluable. </div><div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">My Hormagaunts manage to skitter up the sides of the ruins, meeting Gabe's Kabalite's in combat. My hormies managed to kill one kabalite warrior, payed for by having my two remaining gaunts wiped out.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://i.imgur.com/zJvC8.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://i.imgur.com/zJvC8.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_UmWF7QshN1s/TTIXhSbMXmI/AAAAAAAAAIg/f77ApM9Z8VI/s1600/6hR5J.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em; text-align: center;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_UmWF7QshN1s/TTIXhSbMXmI/AAAAAAAAAIg/f77ApM9Z8VI/s320/6hR5J.jpg" width="240" /></a><br />

</div><div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">His Kabalites and Homunculus hopped back into their immobilized raider, taking advantage of it's splinter racks again.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">The Immobilized raider and it's occupants took aim at the approaching Tervigon, inflicting 3 wounds to it.</div><div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><b><u>Tyranids Turn 3</u></b></div><div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">Realizing that the way the game was heading, (away from my board edge) I decided to move my devilgaunts out of my building and towards Gabe's freshly abandoned position amongst the boulders to secure the objective. I swung my 8 gaunts back around to take up position in the devilgaunts place, holding the objective.</div><div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">My Hive guard continued to advance, my Tervigon casts catalyst on itself once more and changes trajectory ; now heading towards the fourth objective amongst the ruins, below Gabe's immobilized raider.</div><div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">Turn 3 finally saw my Hive Guard near enough to take some shots at the immobilized Raider, and in an impressive display of poor rolling managed to roll 3 out of 4 1s, the fourth shot penetrating, blowing off the Raider's splinter cannon.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://i.imgur.com/tmpJy.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://i.imgur.com/tmpJy.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><b><u><br />

</div><div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">My Hive guard take another shot at the Immobilized Raider, this time causing it to explode, two kabalite warriors perishing in the ensuing inferno.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://i.imgur.com/uCMZn.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://i.imgur.com/uCMZn.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />

</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">Turn 5 saw Gabe's still-moving Raider swoop in behind the ruins, placing him in a perfect position not to get any shots on my units, which was nice. The surviving occupants of the destroyed raider hop down into the ruins.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">The Kabalite's and Homunculus fire on my Hive Guard again, inflicting another wound, killing off one of my HG.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />

</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">Hive Guard fail at shooting, doing nothing to the raider behind the ruins.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">Tervigon fires it's cluster spines at the remaining kabalite warriors/Homonculi, scattering far off and almost striking itself.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">Gabe rolls, game continues.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />

</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">All remaining forces pour fire into my hive guard. Inflicting 3 wounds, reducing the brood to one HG with 1 wound.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />

I have admittedly been slacking, a lot. I've just finished my Hive Guard which should have otherwise been done weeks ago. Sort of in a painting slump at the moment.<br />
<br />
I competed In a local tournament in Pensacola yesterday and had a lot of fun. I came in 4th out of 10 with 2 wins and 1 loss. The top 2 players were running Dark Eldar, and my loss to one of them. My list was as follows :<br />
<br />
HQ : Tyrant : Old Adversary, LWhip/Bsword, Armored Shell, Regeneration, TL BL Worm Devourers<br />
2x Tyrant Guard w/ Lwhips<br />
Prime : 2x Bone swords, Devourer (Prime was attached to Tyrant and retinue)<br />
<br />
Elites : 3x Hive Guard<br />
3x Hive Guard<br />
2x Zoanthropes<br />
<br />
Troops : 15x Termagants<br />
15x Termagants<br />
Tervigon : Catalyst, AG,TS<br />
Tervigon : Catalyst, AG,TS<br />
<br />
Heavy Support : Trygon<br />
Trygon<br />
<br />
Redundancy, A lot of monstrous creatures, and a hell of a lot of toughness 6 models.<br />
I snapped a few photos from each match, and I was keeping track of units lost each turn on my army list sheet...which magically disappeared during my last match. So I'll give a very rough description of what happened in each.<br />
<br />
My first match was up against Space Marines. The army was very much geared towards a scout theme. It included Khan(?), Shrike, A lot of bikes, D.naught dropping in via pod. Some snipers. A thunderfire cannon hidden on a board edge, and two speeders with scouts in each.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_UmWF7QshN1s/TSoA5sAQ3QI/AAAAAAAAAHk/0XStVRrsEkA/s1600/IMG_0479.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_UmWF7QshN1s/TSoA5sAQ3QI/AAAAAAAAAHk/0XStVRrsEkA/s320/IMG_0479.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">This was an objective based game. We had 3. One was sitting in the middle ruins. One was inside of my forest on my deployment zone. The third was in his forest on his deployment zone.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">I immediately took my right flank and set about securing the center ruins and objective. I left my left brood of hive guard and 15 gaunts within my terrain to secure and hold the objective on my end of the board.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_UmWF7QshN1s/TSoA6qEAFLI/AAAAAAAAAHo/fCZxKjhiZW4/s1600/IMG_0480.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_UmWF7QshN1s/TSoA6qEAFLI/AAAAAAAAAHo/fCZxKjhiZW4/s320/IMG_0480.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><br />
The first two turns mostly included some posturing of my army. My left flank's Tervigon and produced Gaunts hoofed it over to the left table edge to tie up and take out his thunderfire cannon.<br />
<br />
Shrike wasted no time taking wing across the board, seeking out my hive guard. He managed to kill one Hive guard and wound another. My Trygon split off from the rest of my forces to assist. Shrike was killed by the Trygon.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_UmWF7QshN1s/TSoA8ExLsUI/AAAAAAAAAHs/DPJfW-RNO3g/s1600/IMG_0481.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_UmWF7QshN1s/TSoA8ExLsUI/AAAAAAAAAHs/DPJfW-RNO3g/s320/IMG_0481.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><br />
A large combat took place on and around the center terrain piece. My tervigon was killed, as well as a good number of gaunts. With an assist from my HQ unit his primary group of bikers including Khan were killed.<br />
<br />
His dreadnought charged some gaunts, which kept it tied up long enough for my Trygon to come from the rear and tear it apart.<br />
<br />

</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">On the left side of the board, his outflanking speeder and scouts arrived. The speeder was quickly put down by the hive guard sitting on the objective.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_UmWF7QshN1s/TSoA9kLx0qI/AAAAAAAAAHw/yil1zQrfbR4/s1600/IMG_0482.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"></a><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_UmWF7QshN1s/TSoBAJAfZjI/AAAAAAAAAH4/gwd4tXMxVhc/s1600/IMG_0484.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_UmWF7QshN1s/TSoBAJAfZjI/AAAAAAAAAH4/gwd4tXMxVhc/s320/IMG_0484.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_UmWF7QshN1s/TSoA-wvXVpI/AAAAAAAAAH0/nTt26yI3FYo/s1600/IMG_0483.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_UmWF7QshN1s/TSoA-wvXVpI/AAAAAAAAAH0/nTt26yI3FYo/s320/IMG_0483.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><br />
My other Trygon turned around to deal with the scouts, ensuring they didn't contest my held objective. His other speeder came in on the more interesting side of the board. Combined fire managed to finish off my Trygon, which I was using in conjunction with the wasted dreadnought to form an impassable barrier, trying to keep his bikers and speeder from my objective.<br />
<br />
My opponent had an opportunity to boost his bikes through the gap created, contesting the middle objective and drawing the game. He could have also just flown the speeder right onto it as well, but luckily for me he didn't see the opportunity.<br />
<br />
This game ended 4 points to 1.<br />
2 Points for winning the game. 2 points for killing more than 50% of the army.<br />
My opponent earned 1 point for killing over 25% of my own.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">My second game was against the new, sexy Dark Eldar. This game was straight up annihilation with dawn of war deployment. My ass got pretty kicked. First time I've ever been tabled. I didn't snap many pictures of the match, I kept forgetting to, the game had my full attention. :o</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">My opponent was running with 3 raiders and 1 ravager. Two units of kabalite warriors in 2 of the raiders. His HQ unit (Archon w/ incubi) in the other.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">2 squads of wyches, one with Lelith Hespirax in it. A squad of Hellions and a squad of reavers (jetbikes).</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_UmWF7QshN1s/TSoD2yCtoUI/AAAAAAAAAH8/bda3ckgfdzA/s1600/IMG_0485.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_UmWF7QshN1s/TSoD2yCtoUI/AAAAAAAAAH8/bda3ckgfdzA/s320/IMG_0485.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><br />
This was the board at turn 3. He had a total of 3 raiders and a ravager. The template you see is the webway portal which was put down. His HQ unit was popped out of his ravager during turn 2.<br />
<br />
On the left side of the board combined fire from a ravager and raider obliterated my Tervigon in one turn of shooting (This was also a first).<br />
<br />
Two squads of Wyches leapt out of the webway portal. One unit which had Lelith in it assaulted and tore apart one squad of my poor gaunts. The other unit went for my HQ unit's throat.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_UmWF7QshN1s/TSoD4LN-T6I/AAAAAAAAAIA/OqxPLYUnH_E/s1600/IMG_0486.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_UmWF7QshN1s/TSoD4LN-T6I/AAAAAAAAAIA/OqxPLYUnH_E/s320/IMG_0486.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><br />
My HQ unit took a good deal of damage from the wyches, but managed to inflict more wounds, seeing the Wyches break and flee (which they continued to do for the remainder of the game). My HQ then charged the unit of Hellions. Breaking them and running them down. My Trygon took out the other Raider, containing a squad of Warriors.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_UmWF7QshN1s/TSoD5OpitZI/AAAAAAAAAIE/98jH7JqhloU/s1600/IMG_0487.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_UmWF7QshN1s/TSoD5OpitZI/AAAAAAAAAIE/98jH7JqhloU/s320/IMG_0487.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><br />
This is where my good times ended. Hespirax's unit arrived and tore the remainder of my HQ unit to shreds. My Trygon nommed up the warrior unit, taking a few wounds during the process. Initiative 5 is obnoxious :|<br />
<br />
His HQ unit finished off my Trygon.<br />
<br />
Over on the left side of the board my Trygon charged and popped the raider, destroying it. My unit of hive guard shot down the ravager. The Trygon went on to eat up the warriors. The jetbikes tore across the board, ripping a good number of my gaunts asunder in the process. My hive guard shot at the bikes then assaulted them, hoping to tie them up for a few turns.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_UmWF7QshN1s/TSoD6Qn15_I/AAAAAAAAAII/uvvw5ZhzwSY/s1600/IMG_0488.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_UmWF7QshN1s/TSoD6Qn15_I/AAAAAAAAAII/uvvw5ZhzwSY/s320/IMG_0488.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_UmWF7QshN1s/TSoD71JAjPI/AAAAAAAAAIM/U1Opr-28yeQ/s1600/IMG_0489.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_UmWF7QshN1s/TSoD71JAjPI/AAAAAAAAAIM/U1Opr-28yeQ/s320/IMG_0489.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><br />
This was the board at the end of the game. Lelith assaulted my two zoanthropes and did little to nothing in 3 rounds of combat. This had my opponent swearing up and down. Them big ol' brains served them well. I was making their 3+ invul saves over and over. My hive guard got shredded by the remaining squad of wyches, my Tervigon held out for a few rounds. His HQ unit joined the combat, which definitely ended the Tervigon's life. (The Archon also rolled a 6 to wound with some item he had, instakilling the MC and doubling his strength due to it)<br />
<br />
The game was fast and intense. It was my first time playing against the DE and It was definitely a learning experience. The next time I face them I'll definitely be castling up, creating a barrier of gaunts to soak up initial assaults with my Trygons and HQ unit ready to counter-assault. I would've fared better if this game was NOT annihilation, also. This prevented me from pumping out any gaunts from my Tervigon (which, in retrospect probably would have prevented me from being tabled, but would have given my opponent A LOT more kill points). The final kill point tally was 10 (DE) to 8 (me)<br />
<br />
Game ended with my opponent earning the maximum 6 points for winning the game and wiping out 100% of my army.<br />
<br />
I earned 2 points for killing more than half of his. Was very near to 75% :(<br />
<br />
The DE player had a few reaver jetbikes remaining. Lelith, some of her wyches, and the HQ unit with a few remaining incubi. Definitely a fun and fast paced game.<br />
<br />
<br />
My third and final game was against an Imperial Guard army. Very mech heavy expectantly. I'm not very familiar with IG so I'll list what he had to the best of my ability.<br />
<br />
He was running three chimeras. Two containing guardsmen, one containing veterans with his commissar(?).<br />
Two squadrons on the right side of the board, with a leman russ in each, the other I don't know. :[<br />
A squad of two basilisks, a small unit of ratlings, and a hellhound as well. He held a valkryie, sentinel and a squad of penal legionnaires in reserve.<br />
<br />
This third game was another objective based game, with 3 objectives. Dawn of war deployment. Again I took very few pictures of this game. I'll get better about this in the future. D:<br />
<br />
I initially deployed my HQ unit and both Tervigons basically front and center in the middle of the board. I planned to pump out gaunts and rush his tank-line. Tying him up and putting enough hurt on him so that the remainder of my army could take up good positions to pick off what remained. This plan went down pretty much as I expected.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_UmWF7QshN1s/TSoIuZhKk1I/AAAAAAAAAIU/qIuihXG-3uk/s1600/IMG_0497.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_UmWF7QshN1s/TSoIuZhKk1I/AAAAAAAAAIU/qIuihXG-3uk/s320/IMG_0497.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_UmWF7QshN1s/TSoItgG5jqI/AAAAAAAAAIQ/30ZPOzFEHPo/s1600/IMG_0496.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_UmWF7QshN1s/TSoItgG5jqI/AAAAAAAAAIQ/30ZPOzFEHPo/s320/IMG_0496.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><br />
<br />
One of my Trygons popped up on the left board edge, where his Basilisks were. This Trygon wrecked. Wrecked so much face (methinks it's the paint job). When my Trygon arrived his Valkryie and Sentinel did as well. My Trygon first took down the Valryie, then both Basilisks in one turn of combat, then the sentinel. He had a total of 3 wounds inflicted to him I believe.<br />
<br />
In the center of the board my one of my Tervigons managed to rush and blow up the HQ unit's chimera before being taken down. My HQ unit followed up closely behind, taking out another chimera and a unit of guardsmen. My other Tervigon managed to take out another tank before going down himself. My other Trygon popped on the right side of the board, assaulting one squadron of Leman Russ'. He took one down and immobilized the other.<br />
<br />
The remainder of the game basically saw my Hive Guard and zoanthropes taking shots at the remaining armor, killing most of it. My Gaunts held two objectives which were on my side of the board the whole game. His Legionnaires came onto the board, securing one. I won the game 2 objectives to 1.<br />
<br />
Came out of that game with 4 points to his 2.<br />
<br />
This left me with 10 points, putting me in fourth place. Didn't win anything, but I had a lot of fun. I was glad I got paired up against one of the DE players, mostly for the learning experience. If I had been paired up against a different army in the second game I probably would have placed, though. So whatever. I'm pretty confident that the DE armies were the only ones there that could have beaten me. If I had another shot at them I think I could give them a run for their money If not beat them now that I really know how to react to them.<br />
<br />
Sorry again for the scarce number of posts. I'll hopefully be picking up steam again on the painting front. EDIT : After watching the film again while I wasn't drunk, I've reconstructed my review. I felt much less critical viewing it while sober, and had a better opinion of the film overall.<br />
<br />
I arrived back from D.C and there before me was the object of my desire : my copy of Ultramarines, resplendent in It's metal casing. My lady friend and one of my roommates sat down to join me, and I relished the opportunity to share with them the 40k universe which I had come to love.<br />
<br />
The movie does a good job of making the 40k universe appear to be a pretty goofy place. It did a poor job of presenting this universe as the grim, foreboding place that it is.<br />
<br />
Before I start tearing this film apart I'd like to state that I am fully aware of the limitations due to budget (roughly 15 million USD), and that's why I came into the experience EXPECTING a strong plot, strong dialogue, and strong exposition to keep the film enjoyable. I had no hopes for the animation or the action, knowing (hoping) that Dan Abnett's literary skill could make up for it. My hopes were, for the most part, misplaced.<br />
<br />
The lore seemed to have been very loosely followed. There were many moments in the film that had me baffled. Why is this chaplains' crozius arcanum shooting pew pew bolts? Why does this astartes battlebarge have a total of 12 marines on it, ten of whom are novices? Why are these bolters dispensing shells? Why aren't these bolter rounds exploding? For a film that was expressly created for the 40k fan base there are a large number of minor details such as these that were overlooked.<br />
<br />
The plot, the storytelling, and the character development all lacked in my opinion. I assume that this is a result of the budget ; forcing Abnett to slam in a film's story into a 75~ minute time frame. Despite the amount of time Abnett had to work with, I was still disappointed in the dialogue which came off as goofy in many cases.<br />
<br />
The marines act and move like toy soldiers. There is no air of these characters being the most deadly, efficient warriors in the galaxy. They move clumsily, they joke and scoff at their superior's words. The way they work as a squad reminds me of children playing army with toy weapons, moving in mock formations. The film just makes space marines look like giant, superhuman mongoloids.<br />
<br />
The animation, as everyone should know by now, is pretty abysmal. I won't rail on It to any great extent because It would be beating a dead horse at this point. Needless to say, the action scenes suffered pretty substantially as a result of the animation quality. It was difficult to take the film seriously as a result.<br />
<br />
The one positive aspect of the film would definitely have to be the voice actors. They took the roles and ran with them. Considering the bland character development and the sometimes silly dialogue, these actors deserve some applause for breathing some character into these otherwise waxen-faced cardboard cutouts.<br />
<br />
If you aren't into 40k, I'd consider this film a 2/10.<br />
<br />
As a 40k fan myself, I've fit this film with a 5/10. I sat through it, I was engaged, and despite all of it's glaring flaws I still found it moderately enjoyable. To be fair, though, I think the majority of this enjoyment was found by pointing out and nitpicking mistakes and details with fellow 40k players while watching. If you're going to watch it I would recommend doing it with a friend who's into 40k as well. That way you have someone to turn to with a bewildered look on your face every time something ridiculous happens. It certainly improves the experience, as sad as that is.<br />
<br />
Here's hoping for better in the future..Merkmonhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16043821058791600790noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4247097538682079742.post-89824878519232695542010-12-14T08:41:00.000-08:002010-12-14T08:41:48.993-08:00I RETURN!<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">I'm back in Gulf Breeze after about a week up in Washington D.C to visit my Dad and tour my lady friend around the city, she'd never been before. After about 2 years my vile, terrible friends have lured me back into playing WoW (Srsly. I had no say in the matter. Don't judge me). I'm not naive enough to say that this won't hinder the speed of my painting, because It will, but I'll certainly continue onwards at a decent pace. Before I had left I was working on my other brood of 3 hive guard. I have them almost complete, they just need some touch ups followed by highlights. I'll have pics up soon enough<br />

I have dim aspirations of actually having my whole army painted for it. I ground out 12 Gaunts over the last week which at my own rate of painting is a feat. Changed up my color scheme a bit and improved upon the highlights on my gaunts by leaps and bounds (Used to just use white for the highlight).<br />

I applied the stain last night, which didn't go as smoothly as I had hoped. Brushing on the stain evenly on such a large model definitely takes a bit more finesse than the smaller ones I've done thus far. The stain on the chest looks blotchy and more heavy than I wanted. No amount of brushing and attempting to soak up the stain did my much good. It's my only gripe with the model.<div><br />
</div><div>It's turned out good, at any rate. I'm happy with it. I'll probably do some highlights on the scything talons once I figure out an effective way to do so. I'll be perusing Coolminiornot for some ideas I guess. I plan to make his base pretty ornate. A disemboweled Blood Angel will be featured on it. (/Wink at Ryan)</div><div><br />
</div><div>Think i'll just work on some Gaunts next. Back to basics. Mmmm :D</div><div><br />

Basing. Progress.My procrastination finally came to an end on the Trygon's tail. It needed to be pinned in order to interchange the ends of the tails, and I finally did it. It was my first pinning and I entirely expected to ruin it in some way or another.<br />
<br />
Turned out perfectly, actually. It makes a nice, snug fit and took a few minutes to do. Joy!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_UmWF7QshN1s/TOIJYiWRIRI/AAAAAAAAAFg/Izf6GmdCGJ4/s1600/Pin1.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_UmWF7QshN1s/TOIJYiWRIRI/AAAAAAAAAFg/Izf6GmdCGJ4/s320/Pin1.JPG" width="240" /></a></div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_UmWF7QshN1s/TOIJbhr6AqI/AAAAAAAAAFk/cSNkPxnGi_c/s1600/Pin2.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_UmWF7QshN1s/TOIJbhr6AqI/AAAAAAAAAFk/cSNkPxnGi_c/s320/Pin2.JPG" width="240" /></a></div><br />
After a lot of failed experimentation I think I've reached what will be my basing standard for the rest of the army. I see it fitting for the ground on which the great devourer treads to be flourishing, full of life. The Tyranids scour the face of planets, destroying any living inhabitants, ensuring that their massive hive ships are able to attach themselves to the surface. Free to suck every speck of bio-matter from it's prey-world without any danger. So i've gone with a pretty lively base. Full of grass, dirt, rocks. A fresh, succulent planet from which the hive fleet can fuel it's quest to sate the unending hunger of the great devourer.<br />
<br />
Enough with the fluffiness. A layer of sand. A layer of small pebbles and rock. Saturate it in a dark brown ink (bestial brown). Once dried, I drybrush a layer of snakebite leather, followed by a layer of graveyard earth.<br />
Then a few layers of static grass to give it some depth. I think it looks pretty good! A massive improvement over my previous attempts.<br />
<br />

Played a few 1850 point games against Ryan.<br />
Had dinner. Played another game against Mike Miller's orks. Watched Ryan finish up a game against Carter's Space Wolves and finally drove back home.<br />
<br />
Left the house at about 10AM. Got back home at about 1:30AM. Long ass day of warhammer.<br />
Had a lot of fun. My coastal assault list continues to plow through the lists I've put it up against thus far, and i'm continuing to refine my tactics with the list. Good times.<br />
<br />
I went 3/0 for the day, if you were wondering. I had Ryan doubting his list until he pooped on Carter's space wolves with it. (I'm just that good)<br />
<br />
Game 1 Deployment<br />

Game 3 at Carter's house against the green tide. I enjoyed seeing the other player die in droves due to forced fearless armor saves. Gleeee~<br />
<br />
Mike and his orks conceded at the top of the fourth turn.<br />

He's still looking pretty rough. There's a lot of shaving and sanding to be done, as well as a good amount of epoxy and green stuff applications that are still needed, but I like how it's shaping up.<br />
<br />
Also, my dice arrived. I'll get to give them a few rolls on the table tomorrow vs. Ryan's Blood Angels and Carter's Space Wolves. May run a batrep on one of them.<br />

</div>I had another opportunity to test out my 1850 Coastal Assault list this Friday. A few tweaks have been made.<br />
<br />
Here we see our dashing opponent : Gabe (Torpedo Vegas, Visit his amazing blog at www.irollboxcars.blogspot.com !)<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi9H0kyyP-dqgggHE7EQPRo9P1f6J77HiD9qpKSQhT_-u_tNH1SQ2tjjJEDBvV75iFyErlKGCsjFb8snM9kB5Hi3gi0TJo0JKKqQaSKEYQBO4hZn6mLe_PcQTckrP8kPRsJ9PCUi5kHl4w/s1600/mevgabe2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi9H0kyyP-dqgggHE7EQPRo9P1f6J77HiD9qpKSQhT_-u_tNH1SQ2tjjJEDBvV75iFyErlKGCsjFb8snM9kB5Hi3gi0TJo0JKKqQaSKEYQBO4hZn6mLe_PcQTckrP8kPRsJ9PCUi5kHl4w/s320/mevgabe2.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">The list continues to prove itself to be very effective. High toughness, a lot of anti-tank, swarms of Gaunts.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">A fun game was played. Gabe decided to concede in the bottom of the fourth turn.
